Above the Cliff
You Are Here (Pizza)
Eat At Cane Bay
The Waves Restaurant @ Cane Bay
Off The Wall
North Shore, Christiansted, St. Croix
If you are in the Cane Bay or the Christiansted area and looking for funky little hangout resturant with a great view, you have to check out Above the Cliff. It has a biker, reggae feel to it, imagine that mash up for a minute. What it is however is common folk enjoying good drinks, more than decent eats and a friendly waitstaff. You'll feel welcome here that's for sure and you'll want to stay awhile. It also helps that the Caribbean is at your feet, literally below you singing a sweet song and providing a great view. The one thing you do have to try, you HAVE to try is Smoked Fried Bacon with Caramel Sauce. This little ditty started out our dining and it's unbelievable. Now we could have just sat there and ate bacon all night but that would be, how would you say....piggish of us?. It is really good. The Grilled Wahoo is also delicious in addition to the Argula Salad, yes eat your greens. It's smattered with Goat Cheese, lime vinaigrette and earthy, but sultry tasty items. Simple and delicious. The best thing about Above the Cliff is the vibe, it's kick back time to enjoy why you are here - to fill up, drink up and soak up everything that is St. Croix. It's definitely "one love" there.

After a long day on the water, I needed a beer and some FOOD!!!! One of our fellow passengers on our island excursion (boat trip to Buck Island), mentioned "You Are Here". They stated that it served pizza that rivaled Chicago Depp Dish Style Pizza. I was like no way, "fuggedaboutit", but they had piqued my interest. Once back on terra firma, we marched over there with the ghost of Harry Caray in tow to see exactly what was going on, it had to blasphemy. Holy %$#!, this pizza is the real deal. Big flaky crunchy crust. Solid cheese, all the elements coming together like an offer I couldn't refuse, nor did it. You Are Here is an idyllic little spot tucked away in one of the boardwalk courtyards, it's a shaded and chill environment. There is a bar if needed and you can consume all the rummy goodness you want, but if you go and you should, order the pizza. Don't question me just order the pizza, you'll love this place.

Perfect restaurant for Cane Beach, it hits all the right spots. Friendly, great food and a gorgeous view of the ocean. This is the restaurant you would dream up if you were looking for a beach spot to kick it after, before or during your visit to Canes Bay. All the right elements are captured. You feel like you're on a friends deck just enjoying the view, a cocktail and some great grub. We had their Blackened Ahi Tuna with Wasabi. Too nice. We also dined on the Conch Ceviche, ding, ding, ding....winner. Well seasoned and delicious. This my friends is beach food. Fresh, from the sea and hitting all the right marks. If you come to Cane's Beach to sit in the sand, eat@canes to make your day a perfect one. Trust me it's worth it.

Ventured into Waves as were staying just up the road. We read the reviews, eyed the menu and it is everything everyone says that it is. This is charmed and delicious dining in a classy but understated manner. It could be braggadocious, but it's not, it's simply sophisticated deliciousness. We tried two appetizers and an entree. The Ahi Tuna Tacos are a must. From the seaweed salad, jicama slaw, succulent tuna, spicy wasabi and wonton like chips all the elements come together to form a perfect dish. The calamari, performed greek style on my visit, had a tasty broth that was bread dipping worthy and tender calamari. I have had calamari in many places, this preparation was and is one of my favorites. Finally, we had the VI Pasta. Another winner. The Basil Fettucini sauce was executed flawlessly, never over powering and a nod to the artistry and subtlety of a well performed sauce. The al dente pasta (feels homemade and I imagine it was) shrimp and scallops in that dish were perfectly prepared, base lining a well constructed dish. Being just up the road, I am sorry we didn't discover Waves earlier in our trip. Waves is a jewel in Cane Bay when it comes to dining. Oh, and the Caribbean in the background made for a perfect dining accompaniment. Enjoy.

Cheeburggah, cheeburggah, cheeburggah!!! I find my self singing Two Tickets to Paradise when I think of this place, except add in Cheeseburger To Paradise. Nice local eatery, comfy, cozy and good food. Feels like a little campground, but all the right stuff is there; beer, cocktails and of course cheeseburgers. The burgers are delicious and juicy, so grab a handful of napkins, you'll need them. Depending on how you concoct your cheeseburger masterpiece and there are choices, they will create your own taste of paradise. If you're on the East End of St. Croix, go and enjoy.
NOM NOM NOM NORTH OF CANE BAY
Just east of Cane Bay is a gem of restaurant, welcome to Rowdy Joe's. Lush garden like setting, patio seating, open air, very nice. Varied menu that features some off the beaten path eats. The Pepper Jack Mac and Cheese with Bacon topping is delicious. We also tried the Blackened Fish Tacos, another must. Why I like this place? Friendly waitstaff, local sourced foods, varied items which breaks the monotony of the burger, pizza, chicken tender trap that some of St. Croix "fast food " restaurants will fall in to. Great offering of beer, drinks and specialty cocktails, "bartender, another round please.". Rowdy Joe's is a must if you actually like food, because what they offer is really good food.

Because of the name of the place, I want to make a Michael Jackson reference (he had an album by the same name way back when), "eeee, hee, hee" and with the exception for that giddy lapse of sanity, I'll refrain from any additional comparisons. Stopped into Off the Wall for after dinner drinks, it's a nice place with friendly service. It features a mostly American beer selection and the food is also mostly American fare as well. Feels old school and it is, but the people are friendly. It's like someone opened a beach themed, hometown diner...on a beach, let that sink in. The crowd reflects that as well, it's seasoned and relatively gray. Off The Wall is a great location on Cane Bay and if you go you will enjoy yourself. Grab a drink and as Otis Redding once said, "...just watch the tide roll away", chances are, it just might be playing in the background.. At Off The Wall the living is easy.

Nice place right on the water on the Christiansted boardwalk. We ventured into town on a Sunday like sacred cows, there was not much going on and no one bothering us. Rumrunner's and the surrounding restaurants were like an oasis. Every seat has a view of the Caribbean, great drinks and lively crowd. Take advantage of the great mixed drinks offered and forget time and space. You'll be transported into the spirit world, distilled spirits that is. There will be no pain just laughter, good conversation if you have surrounded yourself with the right people. The food is what you would expect to find, fairly colonized (think Friday's, Chili's, pseudo fun food, yeah we having fun?!?!), but better than average offerings. We had a nice Wedge Salad with chicken, not bad (grilled blackened chicken would have added some flavor). Our Conch Fritters were forgettable, meaning they forgot to bring them, it didn't matter, we weren't charged for them and we had....drinks. Rumrunner's is nice meet up, sit down, take it all in beach bar and restaurant. Don't bring great expectations, but expect a rum good time.
